Not too long ago A came over for a crafty evening. She grabbed the camera to take a picture of this display of drying Mod Podge screen prints. And a glass of wine. Not a crafting requirement. But occasionally helpful.
I had just screen printed a bunch of “Hello, My Name Is” badges to embellish and use on shirts, luggage tags, tote bags… and other things yet to be identified. What I’m really enjoying about the small scale screen printing is doing simple designs that can be personalized and embellished. Adrianna enjoys the construction and I enjoy the embellishment. I guess it’s a shortcut for me. Here’s what I just did with one of the badges:
After adding Aubrey’s name with a fabric marker, I ironed fusible interfacing to the back of the applique, then ironed it onto the shirt. I used a thin zig zag stitch to finish the edges. There’ll be a tiny bit of fraying. I think that’ll work for this.
In talking with the Queen of Mod Podge, aka Mod Podge Amy, she offered up a few related goodies that an enthusiastic crafter will get all kerfuddled and kerflap about. I myself am envious of the Dimensional Magic. And the Fabric Mod Podge, since I have only used the Matte original version as I did not have any of the Fabric variety. Jeeeealous. Yes, I know it’s wrong. (I’m happy for you, really I am.)
How to enter? Comment on this post. Tell us what sort of image you might screen print if you were to try screen printing. And… also, become a “follower”. No, we will not lead you anywhere all that scary, and it will not improve your chances of winning, it just ensures that we have a way to contact you without you having to post your e-mail address publicly. And I won’t lie, that “following” number, while just a number, is fascinating for bloggers to watch.
We’ll draw the winner from comments posted by midnight on Friday, EST. You’re out there somewhere, lucky duck.
UPDATE: Bummmmmer. It’s really hard to ship Mod Podge internationally, not only because it’s expensive to ship internationally, but also because it’s a liquid/glue and the customs people do not like it. (Mod Podge haters.) So… sorry international folks. Not this round. :(
Treen says
I wonder if being from Australia would hurt my chances?
I’d probably screen print silhouettes in contrasting colours onto t shirts, or make some throw cushions with flowers and butterflies in one corner.
Rose.W. says
I would so have to screen print pictures of trucks on to my almost 2 yr olds shirts, jumper, pants and pillows. He is obsessed :) I could do all different types with that bag of goodies :)
Already a follower :)

p.s. Love your convo up the top ;)
Pati @ A Crafty Escape says
I would probably do something Disney related since we are heading there in a couple of weeks and I want to make the kids matching shirts.
I’m already a follower… and I think wine is definitely a requirement with any craft project!!!
crafterhours says
Treen…. I completely forgot to specify whether it’s open to non-US-ers. If it were me, I’d say “sure, why not? I love customs forms!” but since Mod Podge Amy is in sooooo graciously in charge of the shipping on this one so as not to slow down the transit from her kingdom to ours to Lucky Duck’s…. I’ll check. Darn it, after the last giveaway I reallllllly meant to be more specific. And that makes me want to say… Crikey! (Most anything makes me want to say that, really.) Susan

I would do those awesome name tags you came up with! Plus, anything with wheels (dirtbikes, bmx, skateboards) for my son and flowers, monograms and maybe even a princess tiara for my daughter’s room. And Palm Trees on pillows for me!
I love your blog – you two crack me up! My husband is always asking me what I’m laughing at and I just tell him “you wouldn’t understand!”
Oh, and I’m now an official follower!
Samantha Youngers says
I have been having a thing with trees lately, so I would probably screen print trees on EVERYTHING! I was so excited to see your Mod Podge screen printing post because screen printing is something I’ve always wanted to try, but there’s so much involved and I’m afraid the equipment and supplies could get expensive. I can’t wait to try your method.
I love your blog and am now officially a follower!!
Stacey says
Okay, you’ve got me on this one. Oh what I wouldn’t do with all the Modge Podge. Firstly, I’m conjuring images of wall hangings. We’re sticking with the transportation theme in C’s bedroom and he’s in desperate need of art work and then there are the three new baby gifts that are needed in the next few months.
Lucky me! I’ve been an avid follower since day one . . . when I first met you both . . . and immediately wanted to be an 1/8 as crafty as the two of you.

I wouldn’t know the first thing about what to do with/how to use modge podge. But I am so impressed with you both, I just had to comment. I suppose if I were to modge podge anything, it would be pictures of cats on Gabriel’s shirts, pillows, backpack, anything, because he loves them. If you refer to him as anything other than a “baby kitten,” he will correct you immediately and begin to meow.

i think i would print up girls camp tshirts that said ‘girls camp…it is like a party. but wit rules.’ (that is what one of my committee members came up for as a theme!)

How fun! I have seen so many great screenprint ideas lately, but I think your name tag print is my favorite! (I’m lazy, so I love being able to mass produce. :) )

Oh my goodness, this is fantastic! I love the onesie! If I were to try screen printing, I would probably start out making some cute little birdie image, since that’s my liking of the moment. =)
p.s. I’m already a follower.

Im a follower, I’m a follower…..and lovin it.
I am involved in a playgroup and I think this would be just the thing for us we are needing to make matching shirts and put the kids names on them for when we go out as a group in public. Would love, love , love to do something like this. Thanks

I have been wanting to try making my son a shirt. He is taking a ballet and tap class and everyone always comments on how he is a boy! Boys can dance too!

What I would paint…
I think I would paint everything that I like.
First I look at the kind of fabric and my imagination does the rest… Roses, hearts, birds, ladiebugs, swirls, names, butterflies! Everything is possible with your imagination.. that’s why I love doing crafty things!
Rachel says
Actually, I’m very new to this whole screen printing thing, so I’m not sure! I can’t wait to see more great ideas!
missbossypants says
I would love to try screenprinting. Some of the images I’d try: definitely dinosaurs. My 3 year old son is CRAZY for dinosaurs!
Your name tags are very cool! Thanks for the chance to win!
Michael & Sarah says
Hmmm… I’d probably have to do butterflies or ladybugs of some sort for our 2.5 y.o… she’s so into bugs. (Could be good… or bad. Haven’t decided yet!) Our 7 m.o. doesn’t care – if I screen printed food on a onesie, he’d probably try to eat it. ;)
Keriann says
Well honestly I hadn’t thought about screen printing before but now I think my first project may be just what you did here with the “Hello My Name Is….” tags! Although having it blown up bigger and placed on the back of my hubby’s shirt might be a fun prank! hehe =)

I think I would screen print something easier at first – I’ve never tried it, but I would probably start with birds and then move on to bubbles. My daughter is obsessed with bubbles, so I’m pretty sure she would love it!

I would love to have a crafty night, but I am the only crafty one in our group of friends! So, if I were to try screen printing, I would probably end up making something for one of my friends or kids. Not sure what, but something to suit them.
AstaD says
Hi from London, fingers crossed I’m allowed to participate. My latest obsession is bags. I am experimenting with different textures and forms. Done one with seat belt webbing, jeans and now faux fur and organza, so printing my own motif is certainly next on my list. It would probably be an abstract motif.
Another one is that I’ve been meaning to make a silhouette picture of my baby girl and frame it. I even have the frames already.
My daughter’s room has been waiting for new curtains, so some of those bright colours with some As, Bs, Cs coupled with some easily recognizable animal shapes.

My 3-year-old daughter really likes pirates (I have no idea why). But, all pirate stuff is made for boys. So, I would make her a shirt with a girly skull & cross bones!

Your screen print hack is awesome! I’ve done it with contact paper as the resist, but I am so excited to try modge podge. Such an easier application! First I think I would do my etsy logo, shop is not opening til end of march….
Callie Callender says
I think I would do a little sketch of my puppy and screen print him on a t-shirt!
Kayla says
I’ve been reading so many great blog posts and tutorials using Mod Podge lately…I can’t even decide what I would try first. But pretty much all of it would be for my 5 month old :)
Alyssa says
Honestly I would be screen printing some t-shirts/onsies for my kids, husband, & myself that say: Hi My Name Is: D—–, my Mom is A—–, my Grandma is K–, etc, etc. For my Mom’s family reunion (my youngest is #68 of the great-grand children! with more born since & more on the way before the June reunion. Plus I’d have to screen print an Oliver tractor for my son.

My son loves cats and dogs right now, and I have been getting into making him clothes, so I would probably print a new wardrobe with his favorite animals.

I would screen print my little guys name, a maple leaf (because my hubby is from Canada) or the family crest on the front of a tee!

I would screen print a big cupcake for my daughters upcoming 2nd birthday! And maybe a more boy-ish version of the same cupcake for my son’s 4th birthday next month also.
Blog-y question – can you tell when someone signs up as an RSS feed v. becomes a google follower? Is one better than the other?
crafterhours says
Adrianna calls RSS subscribers “lurkers”. We can tell how many there are, but we don’t have a way to contact them if they win something like we can if you “follow” through Google since our blog is a Blogspot one and it’s tied to Google and thus the Follow thing-a-ma-bob. Your choice, but if you want us to be able to reach you without posting your e-mail address publicly, then “following” is the way to go. (Some folks just prefer to lurk. That’s cool.)

I came across your blog by way of Ruffles and stuff and I have to say I love it! I’ve looked into the personal screen printing system and I’m so dazzled by your simple system (and so is my bank account…lol). The first things I’ll probably screen print….wall art for my friend’s new baby boy :D
Amy says
I’ve been a follower for awhile now and I don’t think I have commented but I think MOD PODGE ROCKS – although I’m not THAT Amy. I am not sure what I would screen print – maybe flowers and butterflies for my daughter and trucks, balls or the like for my son. Thanks for doing this giveaway and thanks for always having fun ideas for me to add to my growing list of things to do!!!
sportyrls says
The term ‘screenprinting’ just seems to scare me- but I think I’ll be brave here soon. I think it’d be fun to screenprint some Minnie Mouse ears on shirts etc for my daughters’ upcoming Minnie Mouse party.

I would see screenprinting items for VBS at church as well as baby gift ideas.
Kim @ seven thirty three says
Can I have that shirt?!?! :) LOVE IT.

Ok, so I think I am too late, but here goes.
C has a Pottery Barn Fire Truck quilt and it is really cute. I took 2 close-up pictures of the fire trucks, and printed them on iron-on paper. I need to iron them onto his plain black lampshade. The Mod Podge would make it complete!
