We Trashed the Dress

July 6, 2010 By crafterhours 10 Comments

While Susan and her family were on the airplane flying back to America, she was also celebrating her 11th wedding anniversary.  And on the first day of Skirt Week (and summer) I was celebrating my 7th.

A while back, Susan had found this movement, called Trash the Dress.  You should do a google image search because there are a lot of fun pictures and inspiration, but basically it’s just people donning their wedding attire and going to strange locations to do a photo shoot.  Say, out in the desert, in a graffiti-covered urban basketball court, or in the middle of a lake.  In any case, your dress is most likely going to be a little bit (or a lot) trashed.

Since neither of us had our wedding dresses overseas (and neither were willing to trash them), we put on some formal attire, grabbed cameras and some dutch courage, headed to the top of a nearby mountain, and had some fun!

Here are some of Susan’s favorites:

And here are some of mine:

Happy Anniversary to us and our wonderful guys!  And happy (belated) 4th of July to you!

Love the shots! Not sure I could actually “trash” my wedding dress, but I have a couple of formal gowns that I know I’ll never wear again that I wouldn’t mind having some fun with :)

I love the idea of ‘trash your dress’ ! (but I don’t want to trash my dress, just take a cool photo, you know what I mean) Thank you for the idea!
And happy anniversary! My man and I celebrated our 5th weeding anniversary last week too. It really is wedding season!

Those pictures turned out wonderful. I agree, I could never trash my wedding dress either. This was a great idea!

That’s fun! Mine is sealed and on another continent. And I don’t think I convince DH to dress up again… I love you in the tennis shoes and formal! Tres chic! :)

Trashing the Dress is a fun way to get a post wedding portrait session in, without the stress of the day-of session. You can always opt to do it in ways that don’t actually trash the dress, though, so that it can be cleaned and preserved for storage.

Ya’ll are just too cute! Looks like a very fun day. Maybe on my 30th (next year, yikes) I can talk my hubby into a fun photo session….

    What beautiful shots!
I love the idea of trash the dress, it actually makes me wish I’d had a formal wedding.
