Crafting has One Natural Enemy

January 7, 2010 By crafterhours 12 Comments

Yes, I’m talking about the toddler.

Last night, I was up too late sewing strips and organizing them for a string quilt I’m starting.  Thank goodness I took a picture, though it was early in the process:

Because this morning, after getting 15 month old P out of her crib and shuffling half-blind to the kitchen to make some elixir of the gods (coffee), I noticed it became very quiet.  Isn’t silence one of the worst sounds you can hear as a mom?  I rushed out to find this:

What was I thinking?  I’ll tell you what – nothing!  Sane thought processing is not available to me until my blood is flowing richly with caffeine.  I need to rig up an intravenous coffee system that turns itself on about 15 minutes before I’m ready to wake up.  Now that would be an alarm clock!

Wish me luck as I try to reconstruct my quilt top based on that one, poorly-lit, half-finished picture.

Amen!! LOL. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old. I can’t get anything done. Yesterday I only got one little bootie made for my daughter because A. my son who I’m trying to potty train was peeing on the floor and B. I was just about finished when I realized that OMG I need to sew TWO booties to have a pair. I love the colors on the quilt. Making a quilt is on my someday list when I learn how to sew. -Jami

Oh, A, I’m so sorry. C did the same thing to me when I was laying out S’s quilt. At least you have a picture.

Thanks for your sweet and funny comments! I ended up just laying it all out over again, which only took 5 minutes. Hey, it’s supposed to be random, right? Well, this way ensured that it is. Maybe P should help me with my quilt tops more often so I’ll stop obsessing over the proximity of same prints or accidentally making a pattern.

I’m laughing, but only because I’ve been there and my dear sweet Bug has done that. Can’t wait to see the finished quilt!

Thank goodness you took that picture! Yeah, my two that are 2 and under greatly shorten my crafting time!

Oh my gosh! My 22 month old did the same thing when I was laying out the quilt for her bed. I was SO disappointed that all my work was destroyed, but I just couldn’t be mad at that sweet little face. Agree….at least you have a picture!

My baby has just discovered how fun it is to get into everything…

This has happened many times to me! It is really funny actually. She knows exactly what she is doing..

    Gotta love her.

I am glad this does not happen to just me

Mom Mom used to always send me in to check on my little brother because he was being too quiet she said. Now that I have toddlers running around SO TRUE! Good luck! It’s darling.

oh, that’s just like something that would happen here! Silence is truly an indicator of trouble when referring to toddlers…
