Recently I was hungry. Does that ever happen to you? That bizarre feeling in your belly and the persistent thought… I…. must… eat… something. (No, seriously, I’ve spent way too much time thinking about how much easier life would be if I just didn’t have to eat. I mean, I’m not trying to skate into a conversation about eating disorders or anything, I’m just saying I hate interrupting what I’m working on to prepare food.)
So I was thinking about a grilled cheese sandwich, because I love the crunchy, buttery grilled bread… but I didn’t want the cheese so much. I wanted something sweet. And then the best idea of my WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE came to me. GRILLED PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY.
Except I was SO not the first person to think of it. As usual.
But I was soothed by the fact that it sure was yummy.
And that’s the end of my story. Back to crafting.

I make PB&J on toast whenever I am late for work, it’s like grilling it, but you don’t have to do any dishes! ::ideal::

Totally going to try this.

I know what you mean! I hate stopping my sewing to make a meal! Kind of ruins the moment!

I have that SAME wish all the time. In fact I really don’t eat if perchance my husband takes the kids out so I can sew. With nobody there to ask for lunch, I am so bad about stopping what I’m doing! “Just one more seam…”

I totally love those too. Throw a little banana on there and I’m in heaven!

Yes, grilled peanut butter and jelly is delish! I discovered that with my first pregnancy.
It looks like you left off one key ingredient in your sandwich though, a light dusting of powdered sugar on the top that sticks to the greatness of the buttery bread. Yum!

Way back a gazillion years ago when there were actually “soda counters” in drug stores (that’s what we really called them back then!—whew am I dating myself!!), one of my fondest memories was when my cousin & I would meet my aunt at the soda counter where she would treat us to a Grilled HERSHEY sandwich!! Now THERE is an amazing delicacy.
Anna says

As I was eating stuffed french toast at a restaurant today, I mentioned peanut butter and jelly french toast to my husband. It was one of my favorites as a kid. Just make the pb&j sandwich as usual and dip into the egg-milk batter (I like adding a dash of cinnamon and vanilla to it). Then, cook it in a pan til it’s toasted. Once you cut into it, the peanut butter and jelly will ooze out and it’s delish! You can add powdered sugar or syrup to the top if you’d like. Give it a try!
Andy says
I’ve never had grilled pb&j but I have had the french toast version. It’s sooooo good. Messy and sweet and delish.

When I was in the hospital after delivering my daughter the nurse brought me a warm PB&J. It is one of the all time best foods I’ve ever had…grilled sounds just as good!
Kari says
Oh, I can totally empathize. I hate stopping a project to eat…then I get cranky and my husband just puts food in front of me. :) And I love any kind of grilled sandwich!

Okay, since I know the moment of the grilled PB and J conception, I know you are not preggo. But if I wasn’t aware I’d say you were. Except that I am and am still a bit skeptical of the grilled PB and J. If it wasn’t so much work, I’d try one right now.
Birdie says
Well, I’m obsessed with eating and still manage to not remember to do it when I get involved with doing something. The grilled PBJ, tho – when I used to make school lunches, I had a sandwich pocket maker thingy, where you close the lid and it grills them and makes them into triangles with sealed edges. PBJ always seemed to separate when I’d just put it in a bag, so I started using the sandwich pocket thing to make them, and the kids went nuts for them.
