Alien Hot Dogs

July 6, 2011 By crafterhours 13 Comments

Warning: There’s a lot that’s disturbing about this.

I’ve recently gotten hooked on Pinterest. I wasn’t in any hurry to try it because I really don’t need anything new to keep me attached to the computer any longer than I already am, but… what’s not to love? It’s way easier than looking a list of text that represents things you’d like to remember for later. And it’s lovely to be able to open a board full of ideas and inspiration and then close it again so as not to clutter your wall with it 24/7. So, I’m a fan.

While I was wading through, I saw this. HAD to try it. The link only took me to a photo, not a blog, so without narrative I wasn’t sure how tricky the… threading(?) would be. I used whole wheat thin spaghetti and nitrate-free chicken hot dogs from TJ’s. Next time I’ll let the big kids try the assembly. I think they could handle it. This one reminded me of Sputnik.

They look gross but not toooo gross before they’re cooked.

After the chicken dogs are cooked, however, I think they’re super gross to look at. I’m posting this photo small and if you think you can handle it you can double click on it to enlarge it. Yes, I like it better small.

The best part, though, is that the kids ate every. last. bite. We called them “alien hot dogs” and they were yelling “more alien hot dogs pleeeeease!”
Also disturbing is that this is two food posts in one week. Very strange. Seriously, I’ll get back to writing about crafty things now.

Maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones talking, but I actually think they look really good. Yes, let’s blame it on the baby I’m currently cooking. ;)

Neat idea! How did you cook them? Just in boiling water? Did you sauce them?

Kendascrafts– these kids have limited affection for sauce, so there was only ketchup on the side. And yes– just threw these in boiling water and pulled them out when the pasta was done. Super easy.

damnit! I think my kids would actually l.o.v.e. this, but I seriously cringe at the photos. So now that I have this knowledge, do I make them, feeding my children and making them happy? Or do I suppress the images and keep up with our safe, albeit limited, menu?

thank you for keeping the photo small. I didn’t think (before I saw) that it would be a big deal, but eeeeewwwwwww!!! How seriously fun though. They would be awesome for Halloween.
