Baby Liam Is Here

August 3, 2011 By crafterhours 24 Comments

Those of you who read this post may be looking for an update. I am so, so, so happy, relived, excited, grateful, enthusiastically giddily joyful to be able to say that Baby Liam was born yesterday at 10:44 am. He weighed 4 lbs, 2 oz and was 18 1/4″ long. Mama and Baby both have a lot of strengthening to do, but both are doing very, very well considering all of the worries of the last 16 weeks.

No photos to share yet– he’ll be under close watch for a bit, but when I can, and have mama’s blessing, I’ll be back with that.

In the meantime, I’ve pieced together Liam’s quilt top. Can I call it piecing when there’re no little bitty pieces?

I love the simplicity of strip quilts. I’m thinking of a mostly white backing with a few small blocks of color. But what for the binding? It seems like a simple enough question that should have a simple enough answer, but I’m a little off this week. I’m just looking at it blankly. What do you think?

(I find that black beans make most excellent pattern weights, quilt clips, workout weights… not to mention protein sources. Quite the multitasking grocery item. And… I might iron this before I display it again. I know that’s high-maintenance and all…)

That’s great news! Glad to hear! I read your post from a couple weeks ago and was wondering the other day, how she is doing! All the best to the new Mama, baby and rest of the family! Thanks for updating! And I love the stripes! Something different! I am still debating what I am going to do with my fabric for my baby quilt, squares and stripes or just squares! Not an easy decision.

What about a black binding. It’s such a strong color and we want both mama and baby to be strong. I’m so thankful Liam is here. I believe in miracles and Liam is one.

Ooooh, I LOVE new babies!! So happy Liam has arrived and is doing well:) I think a dark brown binding would be a great contrast to your darling quilt top. Perhaps a tone-on-tone brown?! Good luck and great job!! -Janica

    Welcome baby Liam!

The quilt is beautiful in it’s simplicity and colors. I’d use the green polka dots for binding.

I’m glad that they are both doing so well. I wouldn’t expect any less after all those kindly Susan vibes hanging around.
For the quilt, I’d say green gingham for the binding. The back would be cute with a couple of scattered hexagons or dog houses.
