This weekend I hosted my first craft night here in my new place of living. We ended up with 5 people and did some freezer paper stenciling (or as I’ve been calling it, FPS. let’s all use it 3 times in a sentence today and make it a thing!) It was the perfect number of ladies and the perfect first craft. Easy enough to do while gabbing and snacking, but not so easy that we were done in 5 minutes.
I’m going to show you a picture, but you have to remember that I’m not one of those crafty bloggers who goes all out in decor and food for these kinds of things. I’m a one trick sewing pony and only a wannabe crafter. (also, we don’t get to choose our furniture or curtains, so please don’t think this decor was my idea!)
And I graciously slaved away to provide these yummy snacks for my guests by stopping at the local bakery and ordering some chips and salsa from the mexican restaurant. The lengths that I go to to entertain will boggle the mind.
Everyone’s FPS turned out great. So great that you’d think I’d have remembered to take a picture. Nope!
But here’s what I made:
Just your standard pink-on-pink unicorn.
The reason I’m showing you so many pictures has nothing to do with my mediocre-at-best FPS and everything to do with the fact that I MADE THIS SHIRT. I know, I know, it’s just a tshirt. But I couldn’t be prouder if it was my 4th child.
And I want to marry my coverstitch machine.
And here’s where I need your advice: What should we do for our next craft night? I’m leaning toward making easter banner/pennant/thingies. So I guess I need to know what we should do 2 craft nights from now. Cuz this is definitely going to be a regular thing. We ladies need more excuses to get together to chat and have a glass of wine but still walk away feeling like we’ve done something productive. Like FPSing. There, I said it 3 times. Your turn.

Sounds like a heap of fun. I love our craft nights. But we don’t all do the same project – we each bring something of our own to work on (or not – no requirement to actually do anything, just come and chat, eat, drink, relax without husband or kids in tow).
One of the girls who comes to ours posted about the last one (the first at my new house – just like you) which summed it up pretty well. You can read it at http://theratherbusybee.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/i-love-craft-night.html
Enjoy – maybe this might work for you too. Otherwise, I’m sure the www will spit out something you’d all love to have a go at together.

You should be proud of that shirt, what a nice finish! Did you use a binder attachment? Haven’t tried mine out yet (too chicken).

Another Kim here ;-) Love the t-shirt: indeed something to be proud of! Some suggestions for a craft night: make a (sping/Easter)wreath, make a zippered pouch/ small bag, make homemade lipbalm/creme, decorate cupcakes……Oh I wish I had some crafty friends living close to me so I could organize craft nights! have fun!

I still vote for tee-to-tanks. Easy and fun and wearable year-round in your world. And only 5 minutes per person at the sewing machine are required. I keep meaning to do some toddler dress versions. -Susan

Ooh that t-shirt is fab, no wonder you’re proud! For another time, how about a simple clutch for taking to summer weddings or something like that?
Sarah says
Oh dear… I think you’ve just pushed me over the coverstitch machine edge. Not good. I *do* have a birthday coming up… maybe I can convince everyone to pool together & get me one!? Your tee came out AMAZING! Unbelievable. :D

Love the shirt! My sister hosts craft nights and has blogged about them. You can see her posts here (http://www.the-red-kitchen.com/p/brown-bag.html).

I do a “Pinterest Party” with friends monthly and we have done some really fun things. Painted canvases with our favorite state, made banners, covered button earrings, necklaces, wreaths, fun plank board artwork. There are so many fun options. How about a spring wreath?

FPS is totally a thing. :) I LOVE the shirt you made!!! I want one. The FPS looks good too. Hey maybe you should make shirts at your next craft night and invite me. Just kidding.

I don’t really have a suggestion for your next +1 craft night. But I wanted to thank you for your post…. Totally made me giggle. And sometimes I need a reminder that other people are using some help from the bakery or living with less than perfect curtains! Your unicorn shirt turned out great! Thanks for sharing
Beatrix from Kindershop says
Your FPS turned out awesome. Love it that you have the unicorn wrapped around back and front.
I just bought a lot of unicolor shirts on clearance…. Now I know what to do with them: FPS!
Hmm, no idea how to use FPS a third time… ;-)

Oi, another sewing gadget that I could use. I love the tee, especially the cool wrap around effect. I’ll be stealing that idea for my next FPS tee project.
Crafty night idea? How about embellished flip flops? Totally useful where you live and there are a ton of up-cycle, embellishment ideas out there.

I want to marry your coverstitch machine too, and he will run away with me to my house. Why are there no coverstitch machine giveaways out there? (Hint, Brother.)

I love crafting with friends!!

I want to come to craft night! You could make quote canvases. Or twig candle holders. Or chalkboard painted wine glasses. Or chalkboard paint, for that matter.
(I’m realizing how silly some of these things sound, so maybe if you have normal friends that don’t want to chalkboard paint everything you can just let everyone pick their own craft. Although I think everyone doing the same craft is more fun.)
Kate says
Great job on the shirt… it’s super cute :)
Jessica says
So cute! We’ve done a few crafting days but we just have people bring their own projects most of them are little to no experience sewers so mom and I(mainly mom)help them through it.
Pillow cases are fun though- using the hot dog method. And we’ve done pottery painting at a studio. I had honestly never thought of providing the craft so we may have to try that out!

Well Jessica beat me to it….
Love the shirt. I keep meaning to try some for Micah but I’m lazy/tired/intimidated?? Your neck finish is superb!
