Skirt Week Superlatives!

June 16, 2013 By crafterhours 6 Comments

Because Susan and I have no chance to voice our opinion during Skirt Week (and trust me, we prefer it that way), we thought it would be fun to recognize a few of the skirts that we loved.  Even just picking a handful of superlatives was hard enough to make us glad we didn’t have to pick winners though!  There is some serious talent in those pools!
First up, “Best Polka Dots”!  This skirt was one of our favorites right away.  Perfect fabric choice, perfect execution, adorable pockets and dirndl styling, and a tutorial to boot!  That’s a winner in our book.  Courtney from Sweeter than Cupcakes will win a prize pack of two of her patterns of choice from Hey June!  Congratulations Courtney!
Spotty Skirt Tutorial

And for lack of a better superlative, we’re voting this one “Most Likely To Be Stolen In the Dead Of Night By Adrianna”.  The eyelet, the silhouette, the color, the pairing with navy…better lock your doors.  It’s just spot on amazing.  I may have even gone out to the fabric store immediately and bought some yellow eyelet, just sayin’.  (If I could’ve bought myself some freckles like the ones on this cute little model, I would’ve done that too.)  Teresa from Dandelion Drift will also win two patterns of her choice from Hey June!  Congrats Teresa!

Sweet Pea Circle Skirt

The Flower Skirt from Paspel Poezen was a huge hit with both the judges and readers (and came within a hair of winning!), and was a favorite of ours as well, so we’re naming it “Most Popular Skirt”.  It’s a winner with that cute fabric, swingy cut, perfect trim, and the fact that she styled it with cowboy boots is just the cherry on top.  Great work!  You will receive a two pattern pack from Ruby of  Zaaberry: The Mirabelle Messenger bag and the Girls’ Night Out Clutch!  Besides being an awesome Skirt Week Judge, Ruby also creates very professional and stylish bag patterns, and we know you’re going to love them!  Congrats and enjoy your new patterns!

Flower Skirt

One of the great things about sewing is being able to make something you couldn’t find in a store.  But I’ve always felt that it’s equally impressive and worthy to be able to sew something that people mistake as store-bought.  I know many sewists view “store bought” in a negative light, but I try to sew so that anyone looking at the garment can’t tell whether it’s homemade or rtw.  All that to say, we mean it as a very high compliment when we name this skirt “Most Likely to be Mistaken for Store Bought”.  The jeans styling, fit, and precision top stitching make the Denim Moss Mini from Kelly of Cut Cut Sew a clear winner.  Kelly will win a copy of Skirt-a-Day Sewing.  Congratulations Kelly!

Denim Moss Mini

And lastly we have “Most Prolific Skirt Maker”!  Justine from JustMeJay made SEVEN skirts, all highly cute and wearable.  She filled all 4 categories with her fun creations.  Great styling and fabric choices, Justine!  You will win a copy of Skirt-a-Day Sewing, just in case you needed a couple more skirts.  Congratulations and thanks so much for all your contributions Justine!

that’s a lot of skirts.  just go visit her blog, k?

Thank you to all of the tutorialists and judges and most of all to our many skirt week contestants for making it a great Skirt Week!  We hope you had fun and are overwhelmed with inspiration for your next skirt project.  Skirt Week might be over, but you can still enter to win your own copy of Skirt-a-Day Sewing until Saturday, so hop to it!
