Today I’m sharing a few things I made with “Ninjas Don’t Sweat” but Lily Gonzales-Creed for Windham Fabrics!
I have to tell you a little about how this came about. I would have loved this fabric anyway, but there are reasons I extra love LOVE it. Back when I was running Spoonflower I Spy Swap 3, I chose a Ninja print. I knew that my 6-year-old would love it. No brainer. We all know there aren’t enough cute ninja prints in the world. That’s what that pop song was missing back in the day, you know. “What the world needs now is love, sweet love…” and ninja fabric.
Fast forward more than a year and I get an e-mail from the designer of the ninja print – who said that the inclusion of her fabric there gave her a little push forward. And now? Her fabric collection “Ninjas Don’t Sweat” is available eeeeverywhere. She signed on with Windham fabrics to help ninja-fy the world. Sometimes bloggy world feels fluffy and silly, but getting an e-mail that says we helped someone turn a dream into reality, even in a small way, is so so gratifying. So, as one does when ninja fabric is available, I asked Windham for two prints (thanks, Windham peeps!) and I sewed them up! First, pajama pants for my two older ninjas. The simplest pant pattern possible to keep this all about the print.
I don’t know where their concepts of ninja fighting originate but when I asked them to do ninja poses this is what I got:
That sort of turned into wrestling. I grew up without a sister, just a brother 6 years younger than me. I had no idea I missed out on wrestling.
And then there’s my ninja baby. In a ninja star dress. She’s not nearly as advanced in her ninja training as the big girls, of course. Learning to stand would help, eh? Her first ever encounter with grass is documented here:
This is the simplest possible pillowcase dress. I’m all about simple sewing.
Simple sewing is great for print-showcasing. While photographing this, though, I was less tuned into the print showcasing and more into grabbing that weed-y thing out of her hands just before she could eat it. We found a nice rhythm. She finds weed, pokes at it, grabs it, brings it up to her face all while I’m snapping away and I swoop in to grab the weed-y thing just before it’s snack time. When she gets faster at nabbing them I’ll run out of time for the snapping part. But for now, it worked.
You can see the entire Ninjas Don’t Sweat collection here. Looking to buy it? Click on any of the swatches on Windham’s site and you’ll see a link above it that lists the shops that have ordered that print. Gooooolly I love the internet.
Hurray for Lily and for a world with more ninja fabric! For the record if you like these sorts of details: Windham sent me the free fabric that I asked for and I pinky promised to post about it somehow. All the rest is my doing. Find more from Lily Gonzales-Creed here.
Ninja fabric?! That is so fun! =) I don’t know how ninjas fight either… I’d probably be doing some of the same moves. ;-)
I’m pretty sure that flower the baby is holding is a clover flower… so totally edible. =)
:)
Yay! Thanks for the shout out! Your girls are so adorable. I am cracking up about the galoshes!
Haaaa! I didn’t even comment on those, did I? Just status quo. Someone is always doing something weird. Usually more than one someone.
