Finally Time to Hash out Hosh Pants

Since my first sighting of Emmy in Hosh Pants I’ve known I haaaaad to make them. I’ve finally checked that box. And they were so quick and fun that I’m dying to make more. 3 pattern pieces. 6 pieces of fabric. Done. I like fast sewing.

These are made with a red lace print stretch twill. There’s a light glitter finish on them (because red lace print wasn’t enough?) but it’s subtle even in person. I mean, in the face of of red lace print even glitter is a bit taken aback. There’s not much drape to this fabric, but I didn’t prewash it so I’m interested to see how much of the body is a result of whatever glitter spray-y stuff they put on it.

I was hoping to photograph these flat this morning but M ran off in them. It’s a good thing she has an extra set of clothes at school because I’m not expecting these to last all day given that the buttonhole elastic I was sure I had could not be found yesterday. And not being able to find it is exactly like not having it, so I cleverly looped the ends of a piece of 1/4 inch elastic and threaded it through – and after an hour or two in them she wanted to change because my brilliant stopgap measure wasn’t so comfy.

SO. I say make Hosh pants. But make sure you have buttonhole elastic. As far as sizing, this is a size 5 on my 75% height/weight 4 yo who’ll turn 5 in April. She’s definitely got some room to grow up-up-up as they do. There’s no side seam on these pants but there happens to be a fold that looks like one here in M’s “ski jumper prep” pose.

Lookie! It’s KCW Day 1 and I’m posting something! In the morning, no less. I made these yesterday afternoon because… I could. And I’m so glad I did. Infinite warm fuzzy feelings for me when I see her “you made something for me?!?” face. Such fantastic motivation. Back to work I go!
