The Aegean Swim Cover: A New Pattern

June 4, 2013 By crafterhours 73 Comments

Ok you guys, after three long years, I am pleased to present The Aegean Swim Cover!

When I made these simple beach cover ups with towels way back in the summer of twenty oh ten, I had no idea that three years later they would still be one of our most popular posts and one of the most pinned items from our blog.  I get requests for a pattern for these all the time here at Crafterhours, and as soon as I opened the Hey June shop, I started getting requests over there too!

So, the people have spoken, and I have delivered!  The Aegean Swim Cover is a beginner-friendly pattern with 4 options: a dress, a tunic, a ruffle dress, and a raglan sleeved shirt for boys.  It comes in a wide range of sizes from 18 months – 12 years.  The pattern is designed to be made with beach towels, and makes use of existing hems to save you time and make the finished garment look clean and professional.  There are also directions if you would like to use terry cloth yardage though.

As always, this pattern includes full digitally illustrated sewing directions and a digitally drawn pattern, along with directions for printing, assembling, cutting, and tips to customize your swim cover.  There is also a tutorial for an optional kangaroo pocket for all those special shells and rocks they’re sure to pick up.

Make a few of these for your kiddos this summer and you can stop lugging bulky towels to the pool and beach.  Every style fits generously to guarantee easy on/easy off so (theoretically) kids can dress themselves while mom relaxes by the pool with a good book and a cold drink (theoretically, remember?)

A word to the wise: I’ve probably received just as many requests for custom orders as I have for a pattern.  So if you have your own sewing business, I would highly recommend that you purchase the License to Sell and start raking in the dough.  It’s an easy sew and an easy sell!  They would also make fantastic summer birthday presents!

The Aegean Swim Cover is available for purchase now in the Hey June shop!  Summer is almost here and the pools are open, so go grab your copy today!

Or, for a chance to win a free copy, just leave a comment here telling me your favorite beach in the world.  I’ll pick 3 winners on Friday!  Giveaway open to anyone in the world with a valid email address, void where prohibited.  Only one comment per person.  Please make sure you leave your email address or link it to your profile so I can contact you.  {Giveaway now closed.  Winners announced on our Facebook page.}
Happy Sewing & Swimming!

    My favorite beach was on an island in the Bahamas. Not sure of the name as we were on a sailboat cruise to get there. The best part was the amazing color of the blue water (and going with no kids!!).

    My grandparents have lived in Monterey my whole life, so it’s practically a second home for us. So while it’s not fun to swim in the super cold water there, I have very fond memories of playing on the beaches (Asilomar, Carmel, and Fisherman’s Warf mostly), building sand castles, and having all kinds of adventures with my brother and cousins. We’re headed to Maui in September (first time with kids) and I’d love to make the poncho for my boys!
