A Little Help?

February 15, 2010 By crafterhours 12 Comments

Since Susan promptly left for vacation when I got back from mine, now I’m the one talking to myself.  Because she not here to give me her opinion, I need yours.

I made this fold-over waist knit skirt:

I fully intended to go all Alabama Chanin on it, so it has a pink underskirt:

The possibilities for reverse-applique or just cutting little windows into the grey top skirt are endless.  As are the possibilities for stenciling, appliqueing, embroidering, etc.

But now I’m having doubts.

So, tell me.  Should I:

A:  Go all Alabama Chanin on it

B:  Do something else to it

C:  Leave it as is (this one sounds the best to me)

And, if you choose option B, you better have an idea, because I sure don’t!

PS:  Why is my foot like that in the second picture?  Does anybody else stand like that?  I’ll be standing like that til my ankles hurt without realizing it.

I vote for A! Lots of work, but the end result would be so worth it!

Leave it! It’s cute the way it is and I love the black chucks!

Rather than all over- how about one vine starting on the left at the hem and going up to the right with leaves or flowers? I really have enjoyed reading your blog- well done!

C!!! It’s so cute. If you’re like me, you’ll only end up doing some experiment and not liking the result. THEN, you’ll be wishing for your super cute plain fold over knit skirt back!!

Or you could do B. And, I do have a suggestion. You can do something like this: http://doahdiddy.blogspot.com/2010/02/better-late-than-never.html . I copy y’all all the time, so here is some repayment. Whether it is good or bad repayment depends on whether or not you like my idea for B.

    So, good luck!! :)

How ’bout a border near the hem of the skirt? Goes all the way around… repeating birds? Vines? Something Alabama-ish, but not so time (or sanity) consuming?

I love Mary’s idea… doing just enough to give it a little charm but not go crazy. Although, I would kill for that skirt as it is right now!

i found you by way of “Ruffles and Stuff” so glad i did..your blog is great! I agree with Mary…i would not do an all over Chanin..but just a bit off to one side would look awesome!
i’m following you now…too many ideas to be inspired by, not to hang around.

I like it how it is! That is, of course, until the fav-clothing-piece-boredom sets in. (Does that happen to you, too?) Then you can reverse-applique to your heart’s content to spice up the relationship once more!

I vote “C”.. it has so much potential for accessorizing in it’s current state…

    1. I love this skirt.

    2. Have you done a tute for this? And if so, tell me how to alter the pattern for a big, preggo belly because this skirt looks sooooo comfy.

    3. I love the Alabama style but all over the skirt might be a bit too much. I like the idea of having it along just along the hem. Plus, knowing your style, I think you would get more use out of it if it wasn’t as busy as the original.

Just started following your blog and I have just have to say that I stand like that too except I do it to both feet at the same time. I’m short 5’2 and my friend found me in a crowd of people just by looking at the feet because she knew that I always stand like that.
