Twill Tape Week: Baby’s Got BackPack

April 14, 2010 By crafterhours 20 Comments

Directly after “hem”, my next idea for printed twill tape was “Use it to personalize a gift!”  Twill tape ideas were hitting my poor over-taxed brain like rapid-fire, I tell you!

The easiest option, of course, would be to have someone’s name printed on a length of tape and use it to tie up their gift packaging.  But you all know I prefer to sew, so…

Backpack!  I’ve been wanting to make Made By Rae’s backpack pattern for awhile anyway, and I thought it would be the perfect thing to personalize for a pretty terrific little girl who is turning 3 soon.

I had Twill Tape Guy print me out a length of vertically printed tape with letters and another with numbers for the straps.  I also got a yard with Kate’s name printed 3 times, but spaced far enough apart that I had plenty of empty space on either side of her name to span the width of the backpack (last name blurred for privacy).

And there you go!  An adorable little personalized gift.  I think the extra twill tape details make all the difference.

Now, who has an idea for what I should do with the two remaining lengths of tape printed with her name?

So cute! I love that backpack pattern. Thanks for the reminder that I need to make another one.

How about putting one of the extra lengths with the name on a reusable snack bag?

I love your incrediblenesses! Extra twill tape with “Kate” might be good for (thinking of what things the kids we know do with all the ribbon they find around here):
    – bracelet
    – collar for stuffed toy
    – “fairy wand” streamers
    – barrettes or headband
    – crayon pouch/roll
    – name tag on a doctor’s white coat…for dress-up, yano! Any occupational dress up really. With Velcro…ooo, I am giving myself ideas!
    – Label for inside of jacket
    – washable cup cozy, with terry, for those nice cold drinks that summer demands

That’s adorable. I wish my daughter wasn’t going to have to have a clear backpack next year because I would totally make something like that for her.

Wow S! That’s a ton of great ideas! I really like all of them! Headband was one of my first ideas too. I’m liking “crayon roll” most because it would coordinate with the back pack theme!

it’s a Kokka print called “Sunny Day Border” (they also have a print called Sunny Day). I got it on etsy, but it’s sold out now. They used to have it at Fabricworm, so maybe they’ll be getting more in.

Just recently found your blog but I have loved, Loved LOVED every post.
Like some of the above have said a matching snack/lunch bag or pencil case. If she’s 3 she might be past the “blankie stage” but that might be a good idea for future projects. :)

Ok this is seriously the cutest backpack I have ever seen… love the personalized twill tape so much. I am all about the matchy-matchy so I would vote for a lunch bag and pencil case.
