Skirt Week: Superfast Skirt

June 23, 2010 By crafterhours 3 Comments

Hellloooo there everyone. You’re probably not expecting to hear much from me since The End. But I am alive and well and arguing with talking to Adrianna more or less every day. We are having great debates over skirts. And while my sewing machine, serger, fabric, sanity, and supplies are in transit from one continent to another, I *did* manage to plan ahead a bit for skirt week. So I’d like to introduce you to my current favorite skirt. It’s made from some sort of super stretchy poly that’s almost swimsuit-y. It has a lightly flocked pattern that isn’t nearly as contrast-y as these photos make it look.
I made it by copying a knit skirt I already had that fit well and I thought was a reasonable match for the fabric. The bottom hem is unfinished. The sewing was all done with a stretch stitch on a regular sewing machine. There are only three pieces. I think I finished the entire thing in an hour. And I’ve worn it every other day since. In case you’re not familiar with a foldover waist, you can wear the waist all the way up… as above. Or scrunched….
Or… uh… folded over. Hence the name.
And now I’m examining the weird lines on my knees. I believe those are a result of sitting with my knees on the edge of A’s kitchen table and then leaping up to take quick photos while we were both available (and children were somewhat entertained) for about 30 seconds. That’s on the to-do list of crafterhours– both of us have to figure out how to take photos without each others’ help. And how to get through our days without being able to sit at each others’ kitchen tables. At least until we can figure out how to reunite in the same locale.

That’s so cute I had to stop sewing and comment! I wish I could surf and sew simultaneously….. Hope the move is not too painful.
