Hi lovely readers! Just thought I’d write up a post to maybe explain my long absence in this space. Ok, I guess I don’t really have an excuse. I could make up a pretty awesome one, trust me. Once in highschool I was required to do a biography on a person that I had never heard of. My parents and I searched the internet and library and still couldn’t find anything. So I wrote a paper about this person that was entirely fictional and of my own making. My teacher gave me an A for effort. Turned out he had spelled the guy’s name wrong.
So, that’s to say, I could lie to you guys, but I won’t. The truth is that I just haven’t felt like it. I’ve had a small dip in my craftiness, but that’s really just because it was the holidays. Really, it’s not the craftiness that has been dragging, but the blogging about the craftiness.
I don’t really have a reason for that. I’d like to blame it on being burned out from listening to the sound of my own voice since June with Susan all tied up in her big move and house reconstruction. But that can’t be true because all of you guys blog on your own with no problem, right? Maybe I was just spoiled before.
So I guess it’s just me, going through the natural cycle of blogging and life. I’m sure I’ll come out of it. And if not, that’s ok too. I can tell you that if she were a cartoon, Susan would be the guy behind the starting line running so fast you can’t see her feet, but she’s not actually going anywhere yet. That’s how ready she is to start sewing and blogging again. So there will be content here, if you can give us a sec.
So for right now, for me, the answer is allowing myself to do less. I’ll still pop in to share stuff I’ve made with you, but I might have to rev up to full-blown tutorials for awhile.
Have any of you ever had a lag in blogging? What did you do about it?
{outfit made as a big sister present for Eve (who is smaller than my daughter modeling it). Her little brother Max was born and is just the most perfect and beautiful little baby boy. The circle skirt is knit with a knit waistband. Couldn’t be easier. If you’re tired of doing the math, Dana has made it super easy for us all with her circle skirt tutorial.}

I adore the bow embellishment on the shirt. The whole outfit is cute and such a thoughtful big sister present!

It’s exhausting sometimes keeping up such an active blog, especially one full of tutorials. Give yourself a break – you deserve it. The mojo will come back soon enough and we’ll all still be here!

First of all let me say what a beautiful ensemble that is and the colors match perfectly!
Second, I think most of bloggers have experienced the lag due to various reasons the biggest of all being life itself! I think you should go with the tide, take a break, enjoy and you’ll be on the crafty train once again. Those who are interested in your blog and everything you share, will surely wait for you to come back.

Beautiful outfit – I want one for me! :) Blogging – yes, I have dips and peaks, too – I try not to worry about it, because I don’t think most of my readers really notice. As a blog reader myself, I subscribe to sooo many blogs in my Google Reader that there’s almost always something to read – and I don’t notice if one of the blogs has been slow on posting. And when she posts again, it comes up in my reader – so I never miss a beat. :)

Does blogging only once last month qualify as a lag….? My daughter is on me to post already. I’ve given myself a break. You can too, it’s allowed. The skirt is very very cute!

Oh we all get in a funk! No worries. That outfit is so cute!

I’ve been in a blogging slump lately too. I’ve been making a very conscientious effort to get back into it :) Good luck to you! The skirt and top is adorable :)

Thanks for being so honest! I totally feel ya. I have lots of lagging in blogging, but I’m not nearly the rockstar blogger that you both are!
I find it hard to dedicate time to blogging because if I have free time I want to be sewing! You’re still in my blogger though, and I wouldn’t remove you just for a little silence. :)

Hey, no worries!!! Everyone has to rest sometimes. We’ll still be here to ooh and ahh over your stuff, no matter how far the gap is between them! :)

I haven’t been blogging much lately either. I decided it’s ok. Sometimes you just have to give yourself permission to slack off otherwise you’ll get burnt out from making yourself do what you’re not in the mood for you. Luckily you have S to write with you. I hope you enjoyed your time in the states! Let me know if you want to get together next time you’re in if you’re not too busy :)

I have a young blog with only 16 followers, and while we’ve been getting some attention lately (tutorials re-posted here and there) I feel a tremendous pressure to blog ALL the time, I think the longest I’ve gone was 4 days over the holidays.
My “Being Honest” moment is that I’ve had breast cancer for over two years, do chemo once a week and am very ill most of the time. (Unless you are one of the 4 people who read my original post, it is unlikely you’d know that.) Even though I sometimes don’t feel well enough to blog or craft or sew, I enjoy having responsibility for something.
Yours was one of the first 3 or 4 blogs I followed regularly, and really admired, long before I started my own, and in a way you are responsible for inspiring me. So if you need a break, TAKE IT! You have earned it. You’ll always have this loyal reader to come back to.

I’m with everyone else on here, ENJOY your break and take one when ever you need it! I don’t imagine that I will ever stop coming back to see what you are up to when you blog. I love coming to visit!
As far as lags over here, I went out of town for Christmas (nearly 2 weeks) and haven’t blogged since a few days after Christmas (if you can even call the picture less blog entry that I posted a real entry lol). I am pregnant with number four and ridiculously tired and nauseous and the idea of getting all of my photos edited for posting is just too overwhelming for me this week. Hopefully I will have a success story of how I got out of my funk for you soon ; )
Love the big sis gift!

And there you go again. . . I swear you have some ESP thing going on– you always say what I want to say– only a coule days before I get it said. ;0) Enjoy your break! I am enjoying my own as well!

I can’t imagine the stress, pressure, and expectations laid on you as a blogger (and a popular one at that). We know you are human just like the rest of us with off days (weeks/months!), a million other responsibilities and just the reality of being so busy living life that blogging seems like a stale thing to do at times. Know that I love your blog as a regular reader, (like so many), but will have the grace and understanding to allow you your space and release you from any expectations! Be encouraged fellow crafter! :)

it’s okay to have a dip in creativity/blogging/whatever. you guys have worked so hard. I think I read that creativity comes in cycles for some people. I definitely feel un-motivated right now. I think it’s the time of year, but I’m trying not to beat myself up about it!!!

Me too… a slump is a slump, and it is okay! I’m not out of mine either and it is encouraging to know I am not the only one. Thank you for sharing about something that is not necessarily the prettiest side of blogging. :-) Cute Outfit!
Stacey says
If you’ve noticed, I’ve gone through the same kind of slumps every three months or so. I think it is a totally natural progression in the land of blogging. I actually think you should take a break when it starts feeling like something you HAVE to do. It defeats the whole purpose of a hobby if you’re having to force yourself to sit down and type. I don’t think you’ll be loosing any readers by pulling back a bit. Your passion about your sewing is what makes people come and read!

Just take a break. Don’t feel guilty about it, just give yourself the downtime you need. A few days, some weeks, whatever, some people have taken months. I think you’ll want to come back to it, and when you do, we’ll all be right here.
Amy says
I have also felt that Lag. I just take a short break. I only come back when I want too… Don’t feel bad about it. We will all have our ups and downs. Good Grief it is hard to be creative all the time… Exhausting even. No worries.
Your outfit is adorable!

Tip for you: For your daughter’s age, you can use wide stretchy cotton headbands for wastebands. When my daughter was a little smaller I made her skirts so fast. I used only about 2/3 to 2/4 of a circle, sewed it together into a cone, then sewed the headband on the waste. Of course, stretch the headband as you go if the skirt is not stretchy. I’ve also used fabric from skirts that don’t fit me or that were too long (then we can match.) I love making little clothes!
