As far as holiday decor goes, I like to keep things simple. I need to be able to put it up easily and take it down and put it away easily, or it just won’t ever go up in the first place because every time I think about putting it up I’ll decide it’s too much of a headache and I’ll do it later and all of a sudden the appropriate holiday was a month ago.
So for wreaths, if there are lots of wire ties or bows to fluff or things to clip or hot glue and/or pack away in some sort of special container… it’s not happening at my house.
Some years ago I bought this twig and berry wreath and hung it as-is for holiday decor. At some point I decided I liked it as a year-round piece. I think that decision accompanied my love affair with red in home decor. It might have come from Crate and Barrel? I’m not sure.
As holiday cards began to arrive in late November, I tucked them into the twigs and berry stems. No clips, glue, tape. They just stayed put.
And they dress up the wall over the fireplace in the kitchen with about 3 minutes of effort.
Decorating for Valentine’s Day takes the sting out of the end of Christmas and brightens up the dark part of the winter for me. Thank goodness it’s also the easiest holiday to decorate for. ‘Cause it’s dark by 5 and I’m in bed for the night by 5:30. Or wishing I was, anyway.

I love the idea of decorating for Valentines Day too. I hate the naked feeling I get when I take down my Christmas decor! The wreath looks gorgeous!
