Selfish Sewing Week/Spring Top Sewalong/New Pattern Testing

May 3, 2014 By Adrianna 23 Comments

This week I was deep into sewing muslins of my next pattern and a little bit sad that I didn’t have time to participate in Selfish Sewing Week or the Spring Top Sew-along.  But then I realized that my pattern is indeed a top that I am sewing for myself.  So I’m killing all the birds with this post and sharing a couple of the more wearable muslins I made.  I’d be winning so hard if I was doing Me-Made-May.

Here’s the scoop neck 3/4 length sleeve version.DSC_0008

The scoop neck is just the right width that I was able to bind it with woven fabric and still fit it easily over my head.DSC_0012

I really love these fabrics together.  So much love.  DSC_0003Hey I made those jeans too!

And here’s a V-neck short sleeve version.  I had run out of poses at this point, having already used up my “flash a big dorky smile at the camera while standing like a soldier”, so I told my photographer friend I’d give a few tried-n-true blogger poses a shot.  She was surprised that there was such a thing, but I quickly reassured her that oh yes, yes there are.

Here’s Blogger trying to remember a classic blogger pose.DSC_0021

Blogger looks at something really interesting on the ground:DSC_0024

Blogger ironically plays with hair while musing deep thoughts into the lens. DSC_0026

And the coup de grâce: Blogger plays ironically with hair WHILE looking at something really interesting on the ground.  All the while musing deep thoughts, naturally.DSC_0027

This fabric is kinda my favorite.  It looks like an a simple cream colored knit, but it’s actually a 50/50 cotton/poly mix, super drapey, with neon slubby thread knitted throughout.  I warned my local friends already that I’m wearing it every day for ever.DSC_0036

Adorable outfit with the jeans! I love the mix of fabrics and I still can’t believe you made your own jeans. Totally unrelated, I need an arrow necklace. Any thoughts on where yours is from?

Shirts are both great, but… The commentary is my favorite part of this post! I’m always trying to channel my inner top model whilst posing, which mind you, never seems to work. I always end up looking like a dope in my pics. You however, pulled off those poses very well.

Haha, I appreciate you saying so. Apparently I can pose like a blogger when I’m joking around, it’s only a problem when I’m actually trying to take a decent picture ;)

FAB you sewed your dark denim JEANS in addition to these 2 knit tops! I agree with Teresa as the floral woven neckline trim “adds” to the bold gold & white striped T. What unusual knit fabric for your V-neck T: specks of neon in yellow & coral to add “sparkle.” You’ve been BUSY, Adrianna, so BRAVO! Sarah in Minneapolis

The shirts, the pants, the ironic hair tossing… I had a huge dorky grin on my face for this whole post!

Great match up on the stripes on the gold and white top. Better than store bought for sure.

I saw your first top on IG just as I was searching my stash for a coordinating knit neckband fabric — and LO! You used woven! I tried it, too, and loved the result. So thanks for the inspiration.

And your poses in this post made me laugh out loud. Great shirts!!

So true about the blogger poses! I think I’ve used all of them. They are just better than the ‘standing like an idiot taking pictures of myself’ pose.

Oh, so much better! I am so tempted to use them after seeing how these pictures turned out…if only I hadn’t just semi mocked them in public…
I guess there’s a good reason they’re so popular amongst bloggers!

aw, you are too nice!! I actually thought about you when I was taking this pic and running through my head trying to remember how bloggers who don’t look awkward in photos pose. So you must have a very natural on-camera persona :)

Love the T-shirts. Both patterns look brilliant and really, those jeans? wow.
Super posing, but you forgot the one I always seem to get which is blogger looks awkwardly and very crossly at the small child that’s just photobombed the picture.
