Just a quick post to share this Giant Rainbow Quilt all finished– quilted, bound, washed and ready to snuggle!
When I released the Giant Rainbow Quilt I had planned to share it quilted and bound – but I didn’t make it that far in time. Now it’s super duper finished, phew! Now the 5 and 8yos can stop asking when it’ll be done, which is fantastic, but I know it’s going to be replaced with arguing over who it belongs to. Hmph. I can settle that by just telling them it’s mine, right? All 3 of my girls seem to be on top of what MINE means. So much mine-mine-mine around here lately.
The quilting for this one simply follows the rainbow arcs with straight lines and then radiates out from the center. Easy and fun to do – though I decided that the twin size is my max for quilting anything myself. Any larger than that and I’ll be sending it off to the professionals. (Relatedly – the KING size Giant Rainbow Quilt I made is going to be back here ANY MINUTE and I’m jumping out of my skin about it.)
The fabrics for this washed beautifully – nothing ran even though I doubled up the color catcher for the first wash! My only note is that the wide quilt backing is fantastic in that you don’t need to do any piecing but this one in particular is better suited for a machine finished binding. There’s a bit of texture to the white ink on top of the white fabric that makes it a challenge for hand finishing. But then maybe you dig challenges, because QUILTING ADRENALINE, right?
Because I know there are folks like me who love to have all of the details, the fabrics in this quilt (all provided by Windham and fresh off the fabric truck this season!) are:
- Red – Ahoy Matey by Whistler Studios
- Orange – Modern Country by Mary Elizabeth Kinch
- Yellow – Tidal Lace by Kim Andersson
- Green – Kinetic by Another Point of View
- Blue – Petite Fleur by Caroline Gavin
- Black and White background – Modern Country by Mary Elizabeth Kinch
- Backing – Modern 108″ Quilt back
And you can find the pattern itself here.
Is now a good time to mention I have 3 more versions to show you?
