Hokie Football, of course! Tonight is the season opener, vs. Boise State, at Fed Ex Field @ 8 pm. But you already knew that, I’m sure. In fact, I bet you’ve already started tailgating and are reading this from your iPhone.
To kick off the season of the best football team from the best college in the country, I made my girls some Virginia Tech dresses. They’re a hodge podge mash-up of two maroon effect and two orange effect shirts that were presents from our awesome VT-attending cousins. (We wear maroon effect shirts when playing teams that have orange in their colors, like UVA, and orange effect shirts when playing teams that have maroon, like FSU. That way there’s never any question about who we’re rooting for. It’s like a science, people.)
Good thing they’re comfy enough to wear as pjs, since kick-off is sometime around 3 a.m. our time.
Man, nothing makes me miss America more than football season. I get all teary-eyed just thinking about the whole thing. Sure, my heart beats a little faster and my eyes may well up a bit when I see the broadcast of PBS’ “A Capitol Fourth” (especially this year, with Reba McEntire singing about life as a prostitute. So patriotic.) But nothing says I Love the USA to me more than beefy overgrown men in tight pants bashing their heads together amidst a cheering, screaming, half-naked, body-painted, hot dog eating, warm beer swilling crowd of fans 100,000 strong.
And nothing, but nothing, is better than Blacksburg, Virginia in the fall. As the old saying goes, if God wasn’t a Hokie, why did He make the leaves turn maroon & orange during football season?
GO HOKIES!
How fun! I’ve been following your blog for several months now, and I didn’t know you were such a Hokie fan. My husband and I are graduate students at Tech, and it definitely feels like football weather here!
These are so cute will you be putting together a tutorial on how to make them?

LOVE THE DRESSES!!!
As a Hokie myself I just love “meeting” other Hokies :) I’m totally looking forward to the game tonight (not to mention a little jealous of some friends who are going!)
And you are very right there is nothing better than fall in Blacksburg
I love this. Go Gokies!
i love seeing the other side of this game! i am in the heart bsu country here. my husband is even a student there, and this game has been all ive heard about everywhere i go. (at church yesterday too!) and apparently, blogs not excluded! :)
love the dresses. have a good time rooting for your team!
Those are awesome dresses!

Go Hokies! My husband is a VT graduate! I was born and raised near Blacksburg, in Floyd. But my husbands job brought us to Atlanta. And I totally agree, there is nothing like the fall in Blacksburg! I miss it so badly, but will be there in a few weeks.
I had no idea you were a Hokie!
Those dresses are SOOO sweet! They remind me of the courtneycourtney designs! Are you going to share how you made them?? hint hint. LOL
I’m right here in Blacksburg just blocks away from campus!! We came here for graduate school 9 years ago and are still here! There is nothing like fall, Blacksburg, and football. Great outfits!!
The dresses are great! I did the same thing for my girls to cheer on their dad’s high school team. We’re 3 hours from Boise and were cheering for BSU. Good game!
GO HOKIES! I was there and it was definitely a nail bitter! It’s ok they didn’t win. I still love them.
I was born in Bronco country, went to BSU and love my Bronco’s and so do my three little kids! Great game though!!! Adorable dresses, need to do that for my little girl, only in orange and blue!
Well, I’m a BSU gal. But I still love these dresses! I really hope that VT has a great season so BSU can get some credit for that win. WHAT a game. Your QB is one to watch for sure.
I just found your blog and love it. I’m still laughing at your post… We are Americans living in Singapore, and my husband was JUST talking about how much he’s going to miss football season. We are Univ. of TX grads, but my brother-in-law went to VT, so that connects us a little bit… :) Also, saw your post about your sewing machine breaking (through one of your tutes). I have a fear of that here. There are no Viking dealers (or almost no dealers of any machine here. I think there maybe is a Phaff dealer?), so if I have machine problems, I’ll have to find someone in Australia I can ship to. I don’t even want to think about what that would cost me!). Anyway, I’m enjoying your blog. take care. Rachel
Love it!! Let’s Go! Hookies! Let’s Go! Hookies!
