Glittered Cupcake Toppers for Laura

February 11, 2011 By crafterhours 4 Comments

I have such. an. amazing. babysitter.

As a mom, that’s one of the most important things on the mom list. Great partner. Healthy kids. Food and shelter. Someone you love and trust to be with your kids when you need a break or have to get something done.

Moving around has a host of challenges, including not always having family nearby. Babysitter Laura, as she’s called here 99% of the time, (BSL for short) is a close second. I don’t worry for a minute when I leave the house. Whatever happens, she’ll not only handle it, but she’ll have the kids laughing and dancing and playing throughout. She’ll take on my godsons too, no problem. And Adrianna’s kids when they suddenly appear. Four rowdy kids and one BSL? No biggie.

TODAY she’s 21. If she were anyone but her I’d worry that this meant the end of babysitting. Better things to do and all. But I’m not worried. I think she’ll stick around. I mean, now she can go out laaaaaaater, and since I’m hardly ever out past… 9:30, she can babysit and THEN go out. That makes me tired just thinking about it. She has some secret well of energy. That and she probably routinely sleeps through the night. Oh how I miss that.

For her party tonight she asked me how to make cupcake toppers. So we collaborated and this is what we came up with. I cut them with the Silhouette. She liked the white with glitter, but rather than coat with glue and then glitter, which might make the icing a little crunchy/toxic, we coated both sides with Extreme Glitter. When mod podging paper by itself you need to coat both sides. If you only coat one it’ll curl up all crazy. A sheet of freezer paper shiny side up makes a great drying surface. Just gotta wiggle them a little bit while they’re drying so that they don’t stick. I added two small slits in the bottom of each one so that we can thread toothpicks through them. We’re going to use silver wire to cluster a few together all crazy-like for the birthday girl’s cupcake.

Tonight I’m partying with Laura. I can’t tell my girls where I’m going, of course. There would be crazy flailing over missing Babysitter Laura’s party.

Happy Birthday, Laura!
