Hey June: Sew Chibi

June 28, 2013 By crafterhours 1 Comment

Oh geez, I’m SO glad that Kat of Sew Chibi is last up on the tour, because man, it’s going to be memorable.  I’ve been in agony since Monday when Kat sent me pics of her Edelweiss, because LOOK WHAT SHE DID!!!  I could NOT wait to release this to the internets.

One of my favorite things of sewing with patterns is turning them into something completely different.  I know that seems really counter-intuitive, especially as someone who designs patterns, but here’s the thing: when you find a pattern that has good bones, you can do anything with it.  For the Edelweiss, you can find your bodice size that is guaranteed to fit, and then go crazy with the straps, the skirt, and the cut of the bodice (not to mention all the opportunities for embellishment), as I think my guests over the past few weeks have more than demonstrated.

Kat left off the ruffles and dipped the bodice down for a sweetheart neckline, and then she changed the gathered skirt out for a circle skirt, and THEN she appliqued it!  I can’t even express my infatuation with this dress.  And that neon fabric! Get in my stash!  Just like everything Kat sews, this is exactly what a little girl would love to wear.  And of course, you can tell as soon as you see it that it was made by Kat!  And I think that’s been my favorite thing over these two weeks – just looking at the Edelweisses and knowing who made them.  You all put your signature style on this pattern and made it your own, which is incredibly cool to me.

Ok, before this gets too emotional for me, GO NOW and see all of Kat’s post!  Thank you so much Kat!
